ODPM's Donation of Relief Supplies to St. Lucia & St. Vincent
On Thursday December 26, 2013 the Government of Trinidad and Tobago assisted CARICOM neighbours in wake of the impact of severe weather. The Ministry of National Security and one of its divisions, the Office of Disaster Preparedness and Management has been mandated by the Government of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago to coordinate and manage relief assistance to the affected Caribbean islands. At this time much needed assistance is being mobilized for displaced person and persons severely impacted by the recent hydrometeorological disaster in Saint Lucia.
The ODPM activated the national emergency logistics system to provide delivery of the appropriate supplies to the Government of St. Lucia. The ODPM has items in its National Warehouse as well as five Pre-positioned and Pre-packed 40 feet containers. Items necessary for immediate mobilization have been placed in these containers and warehouses as well as agreement with the Supermarket Association, Water Manufacturers and other key suppliers of emergency goods and services.The CEO of the ODPM, Dr. Stephen Ramroop has been communicating with the Deputy Prime Minister of Saint Lucia, the Honourable Philip J Pierre and received a list of items that were urgently required by the Government and People of Saint Lucia. The following were requested:
1. Canned Goods
2. Biscuits
3. Infant Formula
4. Water
5. Mattresses
6. Blankets
7. Hygiene Kits
8. Disaster Kits
9. First Aid Kits
The GoRTT / Ministry of National Security and ODPM has initiated this process and has used one of its five pre-positioned and pre-packed containers to send immediately as well as to rent another 40 feet container to send 150 mattresses. The ODPM packed two 40 feet containers to ship to Saint Lucia and is doing additional shipments, the last one being Saturday 4th January 2014.
Some of the relief items already donated include:150 Mattress, 200 Blankets,150 Sheet Sets,1200 Mres, Meals ready to eat, 400 Hygiene kits both male and female, 100 flood bags, 2020 sand bags, 5000 water tablets, 200 shovel, 20 wheel barrow, 100 tall top boots, 40 Core readiness back pack, 50 mop buckets, 120 prs gloves, 100 brooms and 40 four gallons water containers which can be observed in the images within this album.
