ODPM hosts Disaster Risk Reduction Workshop for Primary School Teachers - October 12-13, 2010
In order to further its mandate of building a culture of safety and resilience, the Office of Disaster Preparedness and Management with assistance from the Ministry of Education coordinated a two day workshop for primary school teachers in Trinidad at the Rudrunath Capildeo Learning Resource Centre, Mc Bean, Couva. This Disaster Risk Reduction Seminar targeted selected primary school teachers throughout the nation and consisted of presentations from representatives from partnering agencies such as Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service, the University of the West Indies Seismic Research Centre, Ministry of Health, Trinidad and Tobago Occupational Safety and Health Agency and the Trinidad and Tobago Fire Service. These presentations which spanned October 12-13, underscored the preventative and mitigation measures that must be adopted before, during and after any of the seven (7) hazards to which our region is prone: flooding, hurricanes, earthquakes, tsunamis, pandemics, fires and chemical hazards.
