                                             ODPM HOSTS TECHNICAL MEETING WITH UNITED NATIONS DISASTER RISK REDUCTION DELEGATON AND KEY AGENCIES.

Today, Thursday 03, March 2022, is the final leg of a series of meetings hosted by the Office of Disaster Preparedness and Management (ODPM) with the United Nations Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) Mission, to Trinidad and Tobago. Today’s meeting was held at the ODPM’s National Emergency Operations Centre, Mausica with a number of key agencies and a technical team from the ODPM.

The UNDRR delegation discussed the activities for the implementation of the Climate Risk Early Warning Systems (CREWS) in the Caribbean initiative; the CREWS Global, Project for Measuring Effectiveness of Early Warning Systems (EWS) in Small Island Developing States (SIDS) and support on the design and finalization of Trinidad and Tobago’s Governance Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (the Comprehensive Disaster Management Policy and Country Work Programme.

Attending the meeting from the UNDRR Mission are Carlos Uribe, Programme Specialist; Jair Torres, UNDRR Advisor; Clement Da Cruz, Technical Advisor; and Alana Lewis, UNDRR Consultant.

Representatives from the key agencies include Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service (TTMS), UWI Seismic Research Centre; Central Statistical Office and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and Ministry of Education.

The delegation aims to strengthen support to the ODPM and these key agencies in achieving the targets and objectives set within the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030.
