TT MET SERVICE - OFFICIAL STATEMENT #13 HURRICANE ELSA PASSES THROUGH THE WINDWARD ISLANDS
Hurricane Elsa, at 11:00 am Friday 2nd July, was located approximately 235 km north-northwest of Tobago, centred near 13.4N 61.2W and moving towards the west – northwest near 46 km/hr.
Maximum sustained winds are 120 km/hr with higher gusts. Elsa continues to move away from the Windward Islands. During the next 24 hours, feeder band activity will likely produce periods of rain/showers and isolated thunderstorm activity with possible gusty winds over Trinidad and Tobago. Agitated seas can be expected during this period.
AT THIS TIME, THE SYSTEM POSES NO DIRECT THREAT TO TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO.
Hurricane Warnings are in effect for the following islands:* St. Lucia * St. Vincent and the Grenadines Tropical Storm Warnings are in effect for the following islands:* Barbados * Martinique * Dominica.
A Tropical Storm Watch is in effect for: * Grenada and its dependencies * Saba and Sint Eustatius.
The TTMS will continue to closely monitor this system and will issue an update at 6:00 pm today, or earlier if the situation warrants.
