TT MET SERVICE -OFFICIAL STATEMENT #7 TROPICAL STORM ELSA UPDATE TO WATCH AREAS

 Tropical Storm Elsa at 8:00 am today, was located approximately 1255 km east-southeast of the Windward Islands, centred near 9.6N 50.2W and moving towards the west near 41 km/hr. Maximum sustained winds are 65km/hr with higher gusts.

On the projected track (Figure 1) the centre of the system is forecast to move across portions of Windward Islands and the southern Leeward Islands, north of Trinidad and Tobago, on Friday 2nd July 2021 and then move into the eastern Caribbean Sea by late Friday night.

It is likely that feeder band activity associated with the system will produce periods of rain/showers and isolated thunderstorm activity with possible gusty winds on Friday (2 July, 2021) into Saturday (3 July 2021) over Trinidad and Tobago.

AT THIS TIME, THE SYSTEM POSES NO DIRECT THREAT TO TRINIDAD and TOBAGO Tropical Storm Warnings are in effect for the following islands: * St. Vincent and the Grenadines * St. Lucia * Barbados * Martinique A Tropical Storm watch is in effect for: *Guadeloupe Additionally, as of 8:00am today, Grenada and its dependencies have been placed under a Tropical Storm Watch.

The TTMS will continue to closely monitor this system and will issue an update at 6:00 pm today or earlier if the situation warrants.
