THE ODPM SUPPORTS SEARCH AND RESCUE OPERATION
FOR MS EUDORA SOLOMON
The Office of Disaster Preparedness and Management (ODPM) wishes to extend condolences to the family of 68-year- old Eudora Solomon of Washington Street Marabella. Ms Solomon was reported missing by her relatives on Wednesday 23rd December 2020. It is suspected that Ms Solomon wandered away from her home and fell into the Guaracara River.
Following a request from the Trinidad and Tobago Fire Service (TTFS), the ODPM immediately began to coordinate further assistance from volunteer organisations. The joint mission led by the TTFS was supported by a technical team from the ODPM, alongside a number of first responder agencies and volunteers. The Penal/Debe Regional Corporation’s Disaster Management Unit was contacted by the TTFS for support in providing a dinghy. This dinghy was used by the Trinidad and Tobago Coast Guard (TTCG) and TTFS personnel in assisting the search efforts.
As part of the joint operation, the ODPM immediately requested assistance from a volunteer search and rescue kayak group called 301 Fire, and also made contact with its UAS volunteers in providing aerial reconnaissance. TTCG officers conducted dive operations in the river in the vicinity where Ms Solomon went missing.
The search and recovery team included members of the TTFS; TTCG; Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS); the ODPM Unmanned Aerial System (UAS) Drone Volunteers and search and rescue kayak volunteer operators of 301 Fire.
Once again, the CEO, Management and Staff of the ODPM extend its condolences to the family of Ms Solomon. The ODPM also wishes to thank all the agencies and volunteers for collaborating in the operation.
