Official Statement #2 Active Atlantic Tropical Wave showing signs of possible development

The Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service (TTMS) has been closely monitoring an active tropical wave in the Atlantic, with the leading edge now approximately 800 km east of the Lesser Antilles. The wave has a low chance of development (20%) over the next 48 hours.

The system is moving towards the west near 25 km/hr. Latest analyses indicate that on the projected track, it should begin moving across the southern Eastern Caribbean islands on Sunday 30th August, 2020. Regardless of development, this system will likely produce gusty winds and locally heavy rainfall across portions of the Windward and Leeward Islands from Sunday afternoon into Monday.

The TTMS will continue to closely monitor this system and will issue an update at 6:00 pm today o r e a rlie r if t h e s it u a t io n w a r r a n t s . As always, pay close attention to information being issued by the TTMS by visiting www.metoffice.gov.tt, downloading our mobile app (search: TT Met Office) and following us on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram.
