ATLANTIC LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM UPGRADED TO POTENTIAL TROPICAL CYCLONE
The low-pressure system in the Atlantic, which the Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service (TTMS) has been closely monitoring, has now been upgraded by the National Hurricane Center (NHC) to Potential Tropical Cyclone Nine.
A Potential Tropical Cyclone means that the system is not yet a tropical cyclone, but it poses a threat of bringing tropical cyclone conditions to land areas within 48 hours.
At 11:00 am. the system was located approximately 940 km east-southeast of the Leeward Islands, centred near 13.8N 53.7W moving towards the west near 37 km/h. Current analyses suggest that on its projected track, the centre of the system is forecast to move north of Trinidad and Tobago, through the Leewards, on Wednesday 29th July, 2020. Please refer to Figure 1.
AT THIS TIME, THE SYSTEM POSES NO DIRECT THREAT TO TRINIDAD, TOBAGO, GRENADA AND ITS DEPENDENCIES.
The following is a summary of Tropical Warnings in effect: * Puerto Rico, Vieques, Culebra * U.S. Virgin Islands * British Virgin Islands * Antigua, Barbuda, Montserrat, St. Kitts, and Nevis * Guadeloupe, Martinique, and St. Martin * Saba and St. Eustatius * St. Maartin
