PUBLIC ADVISORY #2

Monday 30th September, 2019                                                                                                   4:35 P.M.

PREPARE FOR CONTINUED HAZARDOUS SEA CONDITIONS

The Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service (TTMS) has issued Hazardous Seas Alert #2-Yellow level for nearshore areas of the northern and sheltered coastlines of Trinidad and Tobago until tomorrow (Tuesday 1st October, 2019).

Yellow level means there is the potential for negative impacts. However, the damage is avoidable if persons monitor conditions and reduce their level of exposure.

The Office of Disaster Preparedness and Management (ODPM) joins with the TTMS in advising all sea bathers, fishermen, and small craft operators to carefully monitor nearshore activities and take the necessary action to preserve life and property.

The ODPM would like all residents and visitors near coastal areas to Get Ready and Stay Ready by implementing the following safety measures:

  • Be alert for large waves and dangerous currents.
  • Follow the instructions of lifeguards.
  • Avoid entering the sea if unnecessary.
  • Monitor updates from the Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service (TTMS).

All residents and visitors should continue to monitor the website and social media profiles  of the Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service and the ODPM for weather forecasts, alerts, warnings and cancellations. Visit www.metoffice.gov.tt or wwww.odpm.gov.tt.

WE WISH TO UNDERSCORE THAT TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO IS NOT CURRENTLY UNDER ANY TROPICAL STORM THREAT, WATCH OR WARNING.
