PUBLIC ADVISORY

Tuesday 3rd September, 2019                                                                                                                                   9:00 P.M.

COORDINATION OF RELIEF FOR THE BAHAMAS

In the wake of the passage of Hurricane Dorian over the Bahamas that commenced on Sunday 01st September 2019, the Office of Disaster Preparedness and Management (ODPM) extends deepest sympathy to the Government and People of the Commonwealth of the Bahamas, and stands ready to assist in coordinating relief efforts.

Hurricane Dorian has lost some of its intensity and is now a Category 2 hurricane moving northwest at 5 mph, while the eyewall is gradually moving away from Grand Bahama Island. It has been downgraded from a hurricane warning to a tropical storm warning.

Preliminary needs assessments are being conducted and road clearing exercises have already begun.

The Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago, Dr. the Honourable Keith Rowley, has indicated the Government’s willingness to assist the Bahamas. In that regard, the ODPM has been liaising with the Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency (CDEMA), to ascertain the needs of the Bahamian people. As such, a request has been received through CDEMA advising that persons who wish to make monetary donations, may deposit their contributions to the Bahamas Disaster Relief Fund Account as follows:
