DORIAN MOVES OVER THE EASTERN CARIBBEAN SEA

 

The Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service (TTMS) has advised via a final official statement on Tuesday 27th August, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. that Tropical Storm Dorian moves over the Eastern Caribbean Sea.

The TTMS indicated that at 11:00 a.m. today (27th August 2019), the centre of Tropical Storm Dorian was located near 14.2N 61.8W or about 95 km west-northwest of St. Lucia, moving west-northwest at 20 km/h with maximum sustained winds of 85 km/h. 

The TTMS advised that the Tropical Storm watch has been discontinued for Grenada and its dependencies. The Tropical Storm warnings have been discontinued for St. Vincent and the Grenadines and St. Lucia.

The following summary of watches and warning issued by the TTMS is in effect as of 11:00 a.m. today:

  • Dominican Republic from Isla Saona to Samana

A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for…

  • Martinique
  • Puerto Rico
  • Dominican Republic from Isla Saona to Samana

A Tropical Storm Watch is in effect for…

  • Dominica
  • Saba and St. Eustatius
  • Dominican Republic from Isla Saona to Punta Palenque
  • Dominican Republic from Samana to Puerto Plata

TROPICAL STORM DORIAN POSES NO DIRECT THREAT TO TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO OR GRENADA AND ITS DEPENDENCIES AS IT CONTINUES TO MOVE AWAY FROM THE LESSER ANTILLES.

The Office of Disaster Preparedness and Management (ODPM) would like to caution all members of the public who may be travelling for business or pleasure to the Windwards and Leewards islands to take notice of the watches and warnings in effect.

Citizens should continue to monitor the website and social media profiles of the Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service and the ODPM for weather forecasts, alerts, warnings and cancellations. Visit http://www.metoffice.gov.tt or www.odpm.gov.tt.
