                                                                  TROPICAL STORM DORIAN FORMS EAST OF LESSER ANTILLES

The Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service (TTMS) has advised via an official statement on Saturday 24th August, 2019 at 6:00 pm that Tropical Depression #5 which formed east of the Lesser Antilles has upgraded into Tropical Storm Dorian.  

The TTMS has advised that at 5:00 pm today (24th August, 2019), the National Hurricane Centre, Miami indicated that Tropical Storm Dorian was located near 10.7N 49.1W or 1165km ESE of Barbados and moving WNW at 19km/h. This system is forecast to gradually strengthen and can be near hurricane strength by the time it approaches the Lesser Antilles sometime on Tuesday.N THE CURRENT FORECAST TRACK, TROPICAL STORM DORIAN POSES NO DIRECT THREAT TO TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO OR GRENADA AND ITS DEPENDENCIES.

Numerical prediction models have Tropical Storm Dorian affecting the islands of the northern Windwards and southern Leewards sometime on Tuesday.

The Office of Disaster Preparedness and Management (ODPM) would like to caution all members of the public who may be travelling for business or pleasure to the northern Windwards and southern Leewards islands to take notice of the projected course of this system.

Citizens should continue to monitor the website and social media profiles of the Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service and the ODPM for weather forecasts, alerts, warnings and cancellations. Visit http://www.metoffice.gov.tt or www.odpm.gov.tt.
