On Wednesday, January 15, 2025 Major General (Retired) Rodney Smart welcomed delegations from the European Union and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) to the Office of Disaster Preparedness and Management (ODPM). The delegations were led by His Excellency, Peter Cavendish, Ambassador of the European Union (EU) to Trinidad and Tobago and Ms. Amanda Solano Badilla, Head of Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in Trinidad and Tobago respectively.
The joint courtesy visit facilitated the donation of tablets by the UNHCR, to support the implementation of the upcoming National Disaster and Climate Risk Assessments that will be coordinated by the ODPM. It also explored opportunities for continued collaboration with the EU and the UNHCR.
