Further to our Press Release dated Thursday, 28th August, 2025, on the increased seismic activity of Kick ’em Jenny (KeJ) the submarine volcano, the Office of Disaster Preparedness and Management (ODPM) wishes to share the following information with the public, based on updates from the University of the West Indies Seismic Research Centre (UWI SRC):

The volcano poses NO THREAT to Trinidad and Tobago at this time.

While activity continues, KeJ’s intensity has decreased compared to when the unrest began on Wednesday, 27th August 2025.

Over the period from 12:00 noon on Thursday, 28th August, to 08:30 a.m. on Friday, 29th August, the network recorded approximately 72 events. This corresponds to an average of 3–4 events per hour, which continues to reflect a lower level of activity compared to the beginning of the episode.

The alert level remains at YELLOW. This level means that all marine interests should maintain the 1.5 km exclusion zone.

The ODPM will continue to liaise with the UWI SRC and neighbouring National Disaster Management Offices to monitor the situation and provide updates as information becomes available. Kindly note that unless there is a noticeable increase in activity, this will be our final Press Release for this event. The ODPM reiterates that at this time, KeJ poses NO THREAT to Trinidad and Tobago.

The public is further advised to stay connected to official communication channels and to avoid spreading unverified information.
