Kick-off Meeting for a Multi-Hazard Early Warning System (MHEWS) Pilot

On August 7th, 2025, the ODPM, in collaboration with the UWI Seismic Research Centre (UWI-SRC) and the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), officially launched the MHEWS Pilot Project at a stakeholder workshop held at the National Emergency Operations Centre in Mausica.

This initiative is part of the IDB’s Technical Cooperation (TC) TT-1116, which aims to develop an integrated, people-centred early warning system for Trinidad and Tobago to deliver faster alerts, improve coordination, and strengthen the protection of lives and livelihoods against multiple hazards.

Key Workshop Objectives:
1. Identify early warning needs, especially for vulnerable groups

2. Develop a registry of physical and human resources

3. Define roles for agencies within the EWS framework

4. Identify pilot sites and communities for implementation

Members of the public actively participated in the Kick-off Meeting for a Multi-Hazard Early Warning System (MHEWS) Pilot Project.
