On Friday, January 12, 2024 the CEO of the ODPM, Major General (Retired) Rodney Smart and his team, welcomed the Minister of Planning and Development, the Honourable Pennelope Beckles-Robinson M.P. to its Headquarters for an official visit. Accompanying the Minister were Ag. Permanent Secretary, Marie Hinds; Ag. Deputy Permanent Secretary, Keshore Lutchman and a number of other senior officials representing the Ministry’s Head Office, Departments and Agencies.
The overarching purpose of the visit was to further strengthen the relationship that exists between the two (2) entities. In addition, the session provided an opportunity for strategic information exchange, particularly of the work being undertaken in the areas of disaster management, climate change and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). While the ODPM is the National focal point for disaster management, the Ministry is the National focal points for both climate change and the SDGs.
The meeting also touched on discussions held at COP 28, to which the Minister led a delegation that represented Trinidad and Tobago.
At the conclusion, the Minister, in thanking the ODPM for its invitation, emphasised the importance of both organisations working even closer together, to maximise the opportunities that exist in the international arena to improve the nation’s disaster readiness, resilience and sustainable development.
