ODPM's Media Release on Relief Items - Tuesday 4th July 2017 -

Tuesday 4th July, 2017 – 10:00 a.m.

ODPM partners with Civil Society to provide Relief Items

The Office of Disaster Preparedness and Management (ODPM) has partnered with the Trinidad and Tobago Red Cross Society (TTRCS) to synergise relief and response efforts between civil society, private sector, and governmental organisations after the passage of Tropical Storm Bret.

The TTRCS is the largest international humanitarian organisation in the country and has the relevant standing operating procedures which allow the seamless distribution of relief assistance utilising their sixteen (16) detachments in Trinidad. Eight (8) are located in the North and eight (8) in the South. The partnership between TTRCS and ODPM creates faster distribution channels, with proper checks and balances to ensure relief supplies are distributed to impacted citizens in a fair and equitable manner.

Thus far, the ODPM has supported the Ministry of Rural Development and Local Government’s Regional Corporations in their relief activities by issuing items such as those listed below, inclusive of wheelchairs for vulnerable persons who also suffered losses due to Tropical Storm Bret. However, there is still a call for relief supplies by the Regional Corporations, as they continue recovery activities in rainy season weather conditions.

Consequently, the ODPM advises citizens wishing to donate items to be mindful of the relief supplies being requested at this time, such as:-
