TT METEOROLOGICAL SERVICE: Area of disturbed weather east of Windward Islands

The Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service has indicated that there is currently a broad area of disturbed weather east of the Windward Islands associated with the Inter Tropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ). This disturbance remains disorganized, however, thunderstorm activity has become concentrated East-Northeast of Trinidad and Tobago.

It has been predicted that the more intense rainfall associated with this area of disturbance will veer north of Trinidad and Tobago. However, Trinidad and Tobago remain under a relatively moist and unstable environment and therefore there is the possibility of showers and thundershowers overnight into tomorrow. Conditions are expected to become settled tomorrow evening on 27th August 2013. Heavy downpours can yield moderate street or flash flooding and may be accompanied by gusty winds.

This disturbed area is moving slowly west-north westward and intensification is not expected to occur as environmental conditions are not conducive for further development at this time.

The ODPM, as the National Disaster Office, has alerted all first responder and emergency support agencies so that assistance can be rendered to affected persons. The ODPM will continue to monitor the situation and any updates from the Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service will be communicated to the public. Citizens are asked to remain vigilant and are reminded to contact 511 if they have been adversely affected.

The ODPM continues to remind citizens of the following:-

Be extra vigilant and cautious at this time.

Elevate valuable and place important documents in sealed containers or bags.

Look out for collapsed pavements and fallen rocks.

Do not walk/drive through flood waters.

Please check the ODPM website, www.odpm.gov.tt or contact 511 for more preparedness tips.

WE WISH TO UNDERSCORE THAT AT THIS TIME TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO IS NOT UNDER ANY TROPICAL STORM THREAT, WATCH OR WARNING.
