Flood bulletin 3: Further rainfall expected over the next 12-24 hours

The Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service forecasts further rainfall over the next 12-24 hours. Meteorological forecasts and data obtained from Numerical Weather Prediction Models indicate that additional rainfall activity, with estimates of between 15-25 mm of rainfall is expected over the stipulated time frame.

Although water levels are approvingly receding, the already swollen water courses can be easily recharged to threshold levels with the added rainfall and already saturated soils. The occurrence of high tides at approximately 7:29 pm this evening will compound any negative development in this regard.

Given that some areas already experienced inundation and the forecast conditions, the riverine flood alert will be maintained throughout the day.

Citizens in general and those who live in the Caroni River Basin in particular are asked to be on the alert for rising river levels and possible overspill. All necessary measures MUST be taken to preserve life and property.

WE STRONGLY UNDERSCORE THAT TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO IS NOT UNDER ANY TROPICAL STORM THREAT, WATCH OR WARNING AT THIS TIME.

Conditions are being closely monitored and another bulletin will be issued as the situation warrants.
