TROPICAL DEPRESSION 5 INTENSIFIES TO FIFTH
TROPICAL STORM OF THE SEASON


At 5 p.m. today Tropical Depression 5
strengthened to Tropical Storm Ernesto.  The
centre of Tropical Storm Ernesto at 5.p.m. was
located near Latitude 12.8N, Longitude 56.6W,
that is approximately 475km east of the Windward
Islands.

Ernesto is moving toward the west at 35 km/hr and
this general motion is expected to continue for
the next 48 hours.  On this forecast track, the
centre of Ernesto should be near the Windward
Islands, north of Trinidad and Tobago, by late
tonight or early Friday.
Maximum sustained winds within Ernesto are near
85km/hr with higher gusts up to 100km/hr. Some
slight strengthening of Ernesto is forecast
during the next 48 hours.  Presently Trinidad &
Tobago Grenada and its dependencies are not under
the direct threat of Ernesto.
Over the next 48 hours, the Inter Tropical
Convergence Zone (ITCZ) is forecast to affect
Trinidad and Tobago, Grenada and its dependencies

with showers and thundershowers, some moderate to
heavy in intensity.  Gusty winds can accompany
thundershowers and street or flash flooding is
likely in heavy downpours.
