Inclement weather to affect Trinidad and Tobago over the next 3-5 hours

Today, the TT Meteorological Service has advised that inclement weather is expected to affect Trinidad and to a lesser extent Tobago over the next 3-5 hours. Cloudy to overcast conditions with periods of rain and/or showers and isolated thundershowers especially over eastern Trinidad is forecast. Deterioration over Tobago is expected towards midday and will favour eastern areas.

Gusty winds may accompany thunderstorms and street or flash flooding will occur in heavy downpours. The occasional lightning strike from thundershower clouds can be expected.

Citizens are advised to be vigilant and cautious as they conduct their activities. Be particularly alert to strong gusty winds and any flying debris caught in the wind. Adopt measures which would preserve life and property.

The ODPM, as the lead coordinator of emergency management, has put the first responder agencies (TT Fire Service, TT Defence Force and the municipal corporations) on alert so that immediate assistance can be rendered if any adverse impact occurs. The ODPM reminds all citizens that if they have been affected by this inclement weather, they must contact their municipal corporation or 800 6376.

Consequently, we continue to underscore the following:-

• After flooding caused by heavy rainfall, stay inside until water levels have subsided and it is safe to venture outside.

• Do not walk / drive through flood waters.

• Be cautious when walking /driving along hillsides or landslide prone areas.

Trinidad and Tobago is NOT currently under any Tropical Storm threat, Watch or Warning. The TT Meteorological Services is monitoring this weather condition and will advise the ODPM if there is a drastic change.
