Opening Ceremony, High Level Session and Youth Session

of the 6th Caribbean Conference on Comprehensive Disaster Management

From December 5 – 9, 2011, the Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency (CDEMA), in collaboration with the Office of Disaster Preparedness and Management (ODPM) and other local, regional and international partners, will host the 6th Annual Caribbean Conference on Comprehensive Disaster Management under the theme CDM: Reflection, Introspection, Moving Forward. This conference, which will be hosted in Trinidad and Tobago for the first time, is considered the region’s premier event on disaster risk management as it brings together the region’s largest gathering of professionals in the fields of disaster risk reduction and management. An Opening Ceremony will be hosted. Further details are hereunder:-

Senator the Honourable Brigadier General John Sandy, Minister of National Security is the Key Note Speaker with Mr. Jeremy Collymore, Executive Director of CDEMA, Dr. Stephen Ramroop, CEO of ODPM and Her Excellency Karen McDonald, High Commissioner of Canada bringing remarks.

2. The High Level Session

The Caribbean Catastrophe Risk Insurance Facility (CCRIF) is sponsoring the high level session during the conference. Under discussion will be The Role of CDM in changing the character of the Risk Management Landscapeand Strategies for effective Disaster Risk Management Policy and Programming in Small States. 3. Youth Session- Step Up: Children and young people as partners in Disaster Reduction 

The youths become involved at the 6th Annual Comprehensive Disaster Management Conference. 18 young people from across the region have been divided into four teams and will debate the topic “Disaster Mitigation is an expense we cannot afford in the midst of our declining economies.”Further details are hereunder:-
