DRR Sensitisation for Primary and Secondary School Principals

Disaster Risk Reduction Sensitisation for Primary and Secondary School Principals

The ODPM conducted Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) Sensitisation for Primary and Secondary School Principals at the Ministry of Education School Principals Meeting on Friday 17th January 2020 (Secondary School Principals) and Friday 24th January 2020 (Primary School Principals).

The presentation outlined the significant role school staff and parents play in preparing for emergencies. School principals were sensitised on the role of the ODPM and the National Response Framework and the role of school staff and parents in preparing for emergencies.

Principals were reminded of the importance of conducting drills annually and overseeing safety procedures at the school. Principals were also encouraged to remind parents regularly of the importance of establishing family emergency plans and building awareness of the school rules for parental access, meetup locations and emergency communications.

This educational outreach forms part of the ODPM’s Safer Schools Programme which is geared towards improving knowledge and understanding of severe hazards and disasters risk among children, youth, communities and stakeholders within the education sector through knowledge, innovation and education.
